Many people are confused about the names and relationship between the SA Foundation and SAS Calgary.
Both organizations were started by the same founder but remain separate organizations with separate boards of directors.
The SA Foundation is an Alberta-based organization that is nationally and internationally focused and has as its mandate to train leaders in countries worldwide to run programs for sexually exploited and trafficked women, based on the SA program model that was developed by the SA founder. The Foundation has under its umbrella its World Services Division, a program model for sexually exploited women with children and its internship centre that are all located in Vancouver, BC, while their head office remains located in Calgary, Alberta. Please look under Locations tab to find out where the SA Foundation has been operating and click here to learn more about the World Services Division.
SAS Calgary is a Calgary-focused organization that deals with sexually exploited youth and women in Calgary only. They are responsible for their own PR and fundraising activities and their only connection to the SA Foundation is a collaboration for the benefit of the young women served. To this effect, the SA Foundation has given outright a 33,000 sq. ft building to house their day program, offices, daycare, transitional housing and business initiatives. Click here for more information about how SAS Calgary and the SA Foundation were developed.
The SA Foundation has no authority over SAS Calgary, on how they operate, deliver programs, fundraise or present themselves in the community at large. Consequently, the SA Foundation bears no responsibility for the outcomes of such activities.
For the sake of autonomy and to allow the SA Foundation to expand more rapidly without the burden of bureaucracy, the Foundation made a decision early in its development to no longer allow new organizations to bear the SA name. Rather, we remain linked to our program plants by program delivery and core values.
For any additional information please do not hesitate to contact the SA Foundation’s Executive Director or Board President.
